Cuernavaca: La Catedral; The Cathedral

La Catedral de Cuernavaca es parte de un grupo imponente de edificios y espacios abiertos. En 1994 la catedral y los otros edificios fueron declarados parte de un sitio que forma parte del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO. Forman parte del sitio Primeros Monasterios del Siglo XVI Sobre las Laderas del Popocatépetl. La Catedral de Cuernavaca está conectada al Ex-Convento de la Asunción. La iglesia se comenzó a construir en 1526. Llegó a ser clasificado como catedral en 1891. El convento fue establecido formalmente en 1529. En el ex-convento hay una pinacoteca.

The Cathedral of Cuernavaca is part of an imposing complex of buildings and open areas. In 1994 the cathedral and the associated buildings were declared part of a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the group of Earliest 16th-century Monasteries on the Slopes of Popocatepetl. The Cathedral of Cuernavaca is connected to the Ex-Monastery of the Assumption. Construction of the church began in 1526. It was elevated to the position of cathedral in 1891. The monastery was formally established in 1529. In the ex-monastery there is an art gallery.

Esta es la capilla abierta. Fue construida durante la primera mitad del siglo XVI. Durante esa época muchas personas se rehusaron a entrar a las iglesias con techo y paredes. Por eso se construyeron las capillas abiertas.
This is the open chapel. It was built during the first half of the sixteenth century. During that time many people refused to enter the churches that had roofs and walls, so open chapels were constructed for their use.
