La Casa de Benito Juárez 1818-1828; The Home of Benito Juarez 1818-1828
Aqui vivió Benito Juárez del 1818 hasta el 1828. Benito Juárez nació en San Pablo Guelatao, Oaxaca, el 21 de marzo de 1806. Era del pueblo de los zapotecas. Sus padres fallecieron cuando el aún tenía 3 años de edad. A él lo cuidaron sus hermanas Rosa y Josefa. Josefa se fue a trabajar en Oaxaca, donde llegó a ser cocinera en la casa de la familia Maza. En 1818 Benito Juárez llegó a Oaxaca para visitar a Josefa, y se fue a vivir en la casa que aparece en las fotos, la casa de Antonio Salanueva. Antonio Salanueva hacía libros en el taller que tenía en su casa. Fue con Antonio Salanueva que Benito Juárez aprendió a hablar, leer y escribir en el español, porque hasta ese tiempo no hablaba el español sino el idioma zapoteco. Fue durante sus diez años en esta casa que se dedicó a llegar a ser abogado. Se casó con Margarita Maza el 31 de octubre de 1843.
En 1847 Juarez llegó a ser gobernador de Oaxaca. Fue presidente de Mexico en cuatro periodos: 1858-1861, 1861-1865, 1865-1867, y 1867-1872. En julio de 1859 promulgó las Leyes de Reforma. Murió el dia 18 de julio de 1872.

His parents died when he was 3 years old, and his sisters Rosa and Josefa raised him. Josefa went to work in Oaxaca, where she became a cook in the home of the Maza family. In 1818 Benito Juarez went to Oaxaca to visit his sister Josefa, and went to live in the house that appears in the photographs, the home of Antonio Salanueva. Antonio Salanueva made books in the workshop he had in his home. It was in the home of Salanueva that Benito Juarez learned to speak, read, and write in Spanish, because until that time he did not speak Spanish but the Zapotecan language. It was during his ten years in this home that Juarez decided to become a lawyer. He married Margarita Maza on October 31, 1843.
In 1847 Juarez became governor of the state of Oaxaca. He was president of Mexico during four periods: 1858-1861, 1861-1865, 1865-1867, and 1867-1872. In July 1859 he passed the legislation known as the Reform laws. He died on July 18, 1872.
